Do you have a child who is struggling with reading or have questions about
how to support your child's emerging reading skills at home? Come join us on
Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 7:00 pm in the R. J. Grey Junior High Library as
Susan Kahn, M. Ed, shares valuable parent tips for helping struggling readers
find success.
Susan worked as a special education teacher in Arlington for 25 years. She also
raised three children with individual health and learning needs. She currently
runs a private tutoring business for children and has recently written a book
called Sue's Clues, which will be released this spring. Her book is a training
manual for parents on how to teach children reading and spelling skills.
Susan believes that the best student outcomes result from a strong home-school
partnership. She hopes that if parents understand the mechanics of teaching
reading skills they'll be able to continue their child's learning at home and
effectively supervise/support homework without tears, raised voices or other
negative interactions. The skills she teaches blend well with most phonemic
reading systems like those used in the Acton Public School system.
All AB SpEd PAC meetings are free and open to the public. We encourage parents
of children with special needs and others interested in special education or
particular presentation topics to attend our meetings. Please check our website:
