Area Support Groups for Parents of Special Needs Children:

  • Parent Support Group For Children With Challenges
    The primary goal of our support group is to connect parents with others confronting similar issues. By sharing concerns, experiences, resources and ideas with each other, we strive to form a community of parents who can provide mutual support and comfort.   • Parents Raising Children with Bipolar Disorder Support Group
    This group is for parents of children with bipolar disorder to share resources, ideas, and support. They occasionally have presenters speak on topics of interest. The facilitator, Kerry Rollins, is a clinical social worker and parent of a child with bipolar disorder. The group is free and open to all parents or caregivers, and meets monthly at the Chelmsford Public Library from 7-8:45pm.   • Apraxia - Boston Area Parent Group
    Boston area support group meetings are held in Burlington, MA and are for adults only. No childcare available at this time. Contact: Beth for more information or join the Yahoo discussion group.
    Meeting Location: Saugus Public Library, Saugus, MA
    Meeting times/frequency: every other month during school yr, 4-5x/yr

  • Autism Support Center - offering discussion and support meetings; for current listing of meetings please see their website. (verified Nov 2006)
  • Groton-Dunstable Autism Support Group
    Groton Public Library, 3rd Friday of each month 10 AM-12 PM, or Groton-Dunstable Middle School North Library, last Thursday of each month 7-9 PM.  Locations are subject to change so contact Sarah Campbell at 978.448.3822 or stcampbell@charter.net or visit gdspedpac.org to confirm the location of the meetings.   • The FCBC (Foundation for Children with Behavioral Challenges) holds meetings, occasionally with speakers, open to parents, relatives, and teachers. Based on the methods used in Ross Greene's program, which is described in his book, The Explosive Child

  • Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance - Worcester
    A support group for people with have or think they might have a mood disorder (depression, bipolar disorder, or schizoaffective disorder), or those who have a family member who does, or anyone interested in learning more about mood disorders.  Contact Tracy Levin 774-262-5907, or email info@dbsaworcester.org.   • Family TIES - Metrowest Region:  Contact Metrowest Coordinator Lisa Mayer lisa.mayer@state.ma.us or 781-774-6602  This is a statewide organization providing information and support for families of children with special needs.  The coordinator will listen to your concerns and based on that will match you up with another parent who is trained to listen and offer information and support.
