Shut Up About Your Perfect Kid! - Westford Special Education Parent Advisory
Council invites parents and teachers to attend this presentation on Tuesday,
February 26th 2008 (snow date March 4th) from 7-9 pm at the Crisafulli School in
Westford, MA. Join us for a humorous and honest look at raising an "imperfect"
child in a perfection-crazed world. Presented by authors Gina (Terrasi)
Gallagher and Patricia (Terrasi) Konjoian. Today more than ever, our society is
obsessed with perfection. This is especially true when it comes to our children.
It seems you can't go anywhere without hearing about how someone's kid is
scoring goals on the soccer field or "A's" in the academic one. So what's a
parent of a child that's not a star athlete or Rhodes's Scholar to do?
Authors of a breakthrough new book Shut Up About...Your Perfect Kid!, two
sisters raising daughters with Asperger's syndrome and bipolar disorder invite
you to find out as they explore the humorous, heartwarming side of raising
imperfect children in a world pre-occupied with perfection and introduce the
Movement of "Imperfection." This long-overdue Movement is allowing parents of
average, disabled and other "imperfect" kids to come out of their messy closets
and brag about the accomplishments of their children. With bumper stickers like
"My Bipolar Kid Loves Me AND Hates Me," they're wearing their badges of
imperfection and telling the world with humor and honesty, "we're not always
O.K., but that's O.K." From trips to "crazy" counselors to "sporting sagas" to
"sibling squabbles," the authors will share stories that will have parents,
grandparents, teachers and virtually anyone laughing out loud and viewing the
positive side of raising "imperfect" children. This seminar is free of charge.
PDP's offered for teachers, CEU's for clinicians. Direct questions to
westfordspedpac@yahoo.com.
