Neuropsychological testing- What it is and how to understand the test
results On March 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the RJ Grey Junior High School
Library in Acton, Dr. Neessen, Staff Psychologist at Children's
Hospital will present: what is involved in a neuropsychological evaluation. He
will discuss what the most commonly administered cognitive and academic tests
are and what they measure. Dr. Neessen will also explain what the numbers mean
(i.e., percentiles, means, standard deviations, etc.) Finally, he will talk
about how the test scores and the overall results transfer to daily academic
functioning and how they can inform educational planning and IEP development.
A follow-up discussion on Neuropsych Testing (without Dr. Neessen) will take
place on Wednesday, April 11 at 9:30 a.m. in room 131 of the
Acton-Boxborough Regional High School.
Dr. Neessen provides comprehensive psychological assessments for children and
adolescents for a variety of developmental and learning disabilities, including
dyslexia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Nonverbal Learning
Disabilities, cognitive delays, and social/emotional issues. Dr. Neessen is a
Staff Psychologist at Children's Hospital, Boston and is an Instructor in
Psychology at the Harvard Medical School.
The primary goal of the Parent Support Group for Children with Challenges is to
connect parents with others confronting similar issues. By sharing concerns,
experiences, resources and ideas with each other, we strive to form a community
of parents who can provide mutual support and comfort. If you can’t come but
